Barrique In Hungary barriquing started to spread since 1992. When the red or the white wine is ready, it is poured into a new typically shaped 225 l. (50 gal) oak cask. The barrique is made of chestnut oak wich should origin from the Tokaj area or from the Zemplén hills. The staves are roasted in a stronger way than it is usual. It serves dual purposes. On one hand artfully it changes the, sometimes even too straight, fruitful odour of the wine. On the other hand having dissolved the tanning agents of the oak barrel they would expand the lifespan of the wine. |
